Linda Barry
Coach
I first tried dragon boating back in the early 90s when the company I worked for entered a team into a corporate dragon boat festival. It was years later when I moved to London that I discovered dragon boating was a “real” sport and people actually trained regularly! I joined Thames Dragon boat club in 2003 and I’ve been paddling with them ever since.
I loved being a club paddler but in 2006 decided to up the ante and try out for the Great British Premier Women’s team. I paddled for GB for six years from 2006 to 2011 competing at European and World Championships (alternate years) and achieving gold, silver and bronze medals at Europeans and silver and bronze at Worlds.
Being a dragon boat paddler opened up other paddle sports to me. I started outrigging in 2010 and have competed in France, US, Canada and London. In 2011 I started racing super rafts (20 litre barrels strapped together with bows attached) and have competed in the CHAR 70 mile raft race five times.
Whether you want to be a social paddler, a good club paddler or even try out for GB, there is a place for everyone in Thames. Whether you want to stay local, race nationally or travel internationally, amateur or elite level dragon boating is the sport and Thames IS the club.
Once you’ve decided what kind of member you want to be we have a support network that will help you achieve your goals. The coaching team of Liam Keane and Linda Barry have between them over 40 years of Dragon Boating and other paddle sports experience. They have represented their country at World Championship level and all have been in Gold medal-winning squads.
